Our Apple Pie Tradition!

Our Apple Pie Tradition!

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!

It has been a great start to what will be a great school year. Please check back frequently for updates and information on class events, field trips and other news. I encourage you to also check the websites of your child's science teacher and general education class teacher. This will help you to keep updated on field trips and special events as well.

Field Trips!!!

All students will have the opportunities to attend and participate in exciting and educational field trips this year. We will plan some as a class and students will also be invited to attend trips with their grade level classes. IMPORTANT! The school district has changed their policies regarding field trips and school volunteers. If you would like to be available as a volunteer driver, there are additional requirements. Parents are being asked to complete a TB test and to be have their fingerprints on file.

Enjoying Nature Around Us

At Valencia we are fortunate to have access to a beautiful creek. Students will occasionally visit the creek as a class to explore, read, learn and be creative. Whenever possible, students will have students advance notice so they can bring appropriate shoes, but there has been very little water lately, so no mud yet.

Homework Policy

Home work will be sent home at the beginning of each week. Homework is intended for skills practice. Some of the homework will be related to classroom themes as well. Please be sure to remind your child to write in their blue folders each week. If there is no topic provided, students may write about a book they  are reading or about a topic of their choosing. It is mandatory that students read at least 20-25 minutes per night. This year I ask that students shade in their minutes on their reading chart. This is a motivational way to track their reading progress. Reading aloud to a family member provides excellent fluency practice. Home work is due every Friday! I ask students to bring their homework packets to school if they have any questions. This way we can support them in bringing a complete packet on Friday. Remember: Your child benefits greatly from your participation and help.

Note: Some students may have additional homework from other classes. This will be sent managed on an individual basis.

6th grade service teams!

Each 6th grade student at Valencia participates in a service team that helps other students in same way. Our 6th grade students have elected to participate in Safety Team and Green Team. Ask your child about this! My hope is for each student to  have the chance to contribute to their school.
