The CARES Act Emergency Rental Assistance Program in partnership with Families in Transition and the County of Santa Cruz is a program offering one-time assistance for past due rent/utilities. The assistance is only available to residents of the unincorporated parts of the County who have suffered a COVID-19 related financial hardship and who are below 80% of the Area Median Income level. 

  • CARES Act Emergency Rental Assistance is available for Santa Cruz County unincorporated residents who have suffered a financial hardship caused by COVID-19
    • Documentation will be required to verify the financial hardship caused by COVID-19
  • Assistance can be applied towards past due rent and/or utilities incurred after April 1, 2020 
    • Eligible utilities include electricity, gas, water and garbage
  • Assistance can cover a maximum of 6 months in past rent and/or utilities with a limit of $10,000 per household
  • English and Spanish Applications will be open Friday October 30th, 2020 @ 8:30 a.m. until Monday November 16th, 2020 @5:00 p.m.

    • Applicants may pick up and drop off paper applications, Monday - Friday 8:30a.m. to 5:00p.m., at either of the following locations:
