Kelly Corbin
Welcome! My name is Dr. Kelly Corbin and I'm happy to be a new addition to Valencia Elementary, PVUSD, and Santa Cruz in bringing music to all of our students. I am teaching all grades at Valencia, TK-6th, and am focusing on getting all students to gain the fundamentals for performing music on a variety of instruments. Our music classroom is funded by the Save The Music Foundation, which is a grant awarded to PVUSD. With this grant Valencia is being provided a class set of Orff Instruments, a variety of percussion instruments, ukuleles, and many resources. Please look at their website for more details.
This is my 13th year in education and have taught band, choir, piano, and general music for 4th-8th grade. My family and I moved to the Santa Cruz area from Twentynine Palms, CA (close to Joshua Tree) in summer of 2022. Along with teaching I often perform music as a jazz saxophonist. I am fortunate enough to have performed with The Temptations and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. I received my doctorate in Jazz Performance from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, masters from Cal Arts, and bachelors from CSU, Northridge. My wife is also a music teacher with PVUSD and our daughter is a student at Valencia. In our spare time we enjoy rock climbing, camping, hiking, and grilling and baking. Feel free to share recipes or ask to try our brisket (it's pretty good).
I am eager to bring more opportunities to our students so they can receive a well-rounded experience in education. If you have any questions or want to know ways you can support our classroom please reach out to by email (Kelly_Corbin@pvusd.net).
