NEWS FROM CLASS 19: OCTOBER 202

NEWS FROM CLASS 19: OCTOBER 202

Dear Parents of Room 19,

WELCOME BACK TO "REAL" SCHOOL! What a relief to be back in the classroom, able to see each other in the "real" world, not behind a computer screen!

So far, students of Room 19 are really trying hard, paying attention, and trying their best to learn the procedures of the classroom.

Each week, I am posting a schedule of what is expected, and what assignments children should do, on this page, under the "Homework" heading.

If you have questions or problems, please email, call, or text me at:

Stay healthy, wash your hands, and smile!

Classroom Management:

Classroom Rules:
  • Treat others like you want to be treated. (Respect them and their things).
  • Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
  • Listen when it’s other’s turn to talk.

Consequences:
  • Verbal reminder
  • Warning
  • Sit out of activity, fill out Behavior Form, get it signed by parent, return it the next day.
  • Sit out of next fun activity, conference with teacher.
  • Call parents and/or Principal’s Office

Positive Rewards:
  • Lots of positive attention!
  • “Caught Being Good” tickets, exchanged for prizes at end-of-the-month class auction.
  • Valencia Victories tickets (possibility of prize each Friday)
  • Team points. When a team gets 20 points, they get prizes.
  • Homework Heroes: students get a prize if they completed homework for the week.
  • Friday Folders: if signed and returned each Monday, kid gets a sticker. 10 stickers = prize.

Other Rules:
Water: students are allowed and encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle to sip on during class.  They may bring water, but not any other liquid, as those are difficult to clean if they spill.

Homework:
We have homework every day except for Friday. Every day, we usually have math (practicing basic math facts) and reading (30 minutes, fill out a portion of the Reading Log, whole log is due each Friday), and a fluency paragraph for them to practice reading out loud (due on Friday). Occasionally we have social science, writing, or science homework. Every day the students write the required homework on their “Homework Agenda”. Every Friday morning, homework is checked and kids who turn in all their homework get a prize as a “Homework Hero”. Each Friday, kids get a Friday Folder that has all their corrected and graded work from the week. Kids should take the Friday Folder home, show their work to their parents, get it signed on the back to show that parents saw the work, and bring it back to school on Monday. Kids who do that get a sticker on their folder, and 10 stickers = prize.
